During the pitch I addressed the theoretical framework that has inspired the development of my own project. My main goal for today was to successfully articulate my project theme and get feedback. I explained that in today’s digital age, it is impossible for anyone to really know much about themselves as people are constantly disciplined online. This leads people to constantly take online quizzes that promise to reveal something new about their identity and personality as they themselves are inevitably unable to determine who they really are and how they fit in this world. However, any activity online, even taking quizzes has implications as oversharing data has become a prime issue in our modern world. I also mentioned that I want my quiz to be educational, in a sense that at the end, I want my users to be given information that will help them be more aware of issues of sharing information online.
My theme was generally understood by everyone and I had positive feedback on my theoretical development. The only thing I was told to do is find more examples addressing these theories and keep researching and developing my idea even more. Additionally, I also showed a slide with my potential website design which portrayed a man with the slogan ‘You deserve to be seen’ which I thought could act as a way to attract people’s attention and persuade the users to follow through to my website. This quiz was supposed to measure your popularity online and I thought that these words would interest the users. However, the feedback that I received mainly addressed the fact that my visual articulation wasn’t very successful because placing a man in the middle, specifically a man with such prominent features could mean that most users wouldn’t identify with this man and that maybe they would want to see a woman instead or even both? I realized through our discussion that my visual plan doesn’t really articulate exactly what I wanted to represent with my website and that I have the backbone for the project but now I need to make the push and experiment a lot in order to create a successful website that successfully portrays my theme.
